Katherine Paterson to appear in a pre-festival event at Brooks Memorial Library

katherine_patersonOn October 1, Katherine Paterson, will appear in a pre-festival event as part of the First Wednesday Lecture Series, sponsored by the Vermont Humanities Council.   Winner of  two Newbery Medals and two National Book Awards, she is one of three people to win the two major international awards: for “lasting contribution to children’s literature” she won the biennial Hans Christian Andersen Award for Writing in 1998. For her career contribution to “children’s and young adult literature in the broadest sense”, she won the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award from the Swedish Arts Council in 2006, the biggest prize in children’s literature. She served as the second U.S. National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, 2010–2011, and she received the Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal from the American Library Association in 2013.

Her event, titled Reading for the Life of the World, will consider the importance and many benefits of reading and will take place on the Main Floor of the Library.

Antiquarian Booksellers from New England and the Northeast will be offering scarce,  rare & out of print Books, both Antiquarian & Modern, Antique Maps & Prints, Postcards & Ephemera at the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center from 10:00am-5:00pm Saturday, October 4.
